The Passaic County jail is a multi-level security prison supervised by the Passaic County Department of Corrections, a department within the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office. The jail was designed to accommodate both male and female inmates and has a capacity of 1,800. Currently, the jail serves as a short-term processing facility, booking and committing adult persons, and then transferring them to a partner facility.
In some cases, and depending on the facility’s operational requirements and capabilities, those who qualify admitted to the Passaic County Jail between roughly 6:30 and 10:30 am (subject to change) may be required to stay briefly at the facility in order to attend a court appearance that same day; if not, their court appearance will take place at a partner facility.
The Passaic County jail has a shared services agreement with both Hudson County and Bergen County to care for, house, and manage its inmate population. Due to the agreement, the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey, receives male inmates from the Passaic County Jail, while female inmates processed at the Passaic County Jail are sent to the Hudson County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in Kearny, New Jersey.
